December 9, 2023 marks the return of Pique winter edition, as it once again transforms the Arts Court into a vibrant hub for its renowned building-wide celebration, spotlighting underground and avant-garde music and art from across Turtle Island. Pique promises to be a destination for uncovering groundbreaking and future-oriented artists.

Twice per year at the winter and summer editions of Pique, makers and community organizers are invited to apply for a table on-site at the Art Market . We are looking for artists/artisans, makers, artist-run labels and publishers, non-profit organizations with a social justice mandate.

Ottawa arts organizations Produced by Youth, SAW, and Black Market Agency, along with community organizations 613-819 Black Hub, Coalition Against More Surveillance, CoSA Ottawa, Criminalization and Punishment Education Project, Elizabeth Fry Society of Ottawa, Herongate Tenant Coalition, and the Ottawa Coalition To End Violence Against Women and businesses Arlington 5 Café, Dominion City Brewing Company and more share their support of the Coalition Against the Proposed Prison (CAPP)’s legal action to stop Ford government from building a new prison on Anishinaabe territory and Kemptville farmland. 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Programming Manager is a leader in the development, coordination, marketing and production of music and arts programming in line with Debaser’s mandate. The ideal candidate has an exceptional knowledge of diverse Canadian and international underground and experimental music and art scenes, has excellent project and time management skills, has a penchant for collaboration and team working, and approaches the work with passion and care. Today we join hundreds of artists, academics, and cultural workers, in pledging our support for the Palestinian people in the face of over 75 years of Israeli apartheid, settler colonialism, military occupation, and ethnic cleansing. We call for an immediate end to the Israeli shelling of Gaza, an end to Israeli raids, arrests, and hostilities in the West Bank, and an end to the arrest and harassment of Palestinian citizens of Israel. Ahead of the Yes No Wave showcase tour stop in Ottawa on Monday, October 16, co-curators Aki Onda and Wok the Rock sat down to discuss the origins of YNW and the Yogyakarta experimental music scene.

Presented by the Coalition Against the Proposed Prison (CAPP), with co-presentation support from Debaser, the concert will raise funds to support the legal challenge waged by local residents against the Ford government’s plan to build the 235-bed prison in Kemptville, which will expand the number of prison cells on Algonquin Anishinaabe Territory, further investing provincial funds into a costly and ineffective approach to enhancing community well-being and safety.
